Of Guts and Hardwork - Maria sharapova
written on: July 16, 2004

Maria sharapova is my recent inspiration. I admire the way this russian 17 year old made it to the wimbledon 2004 and eventually won it in straight sets against a hard opponent like serena williams... and very importantly yet she kept her mind in control when she spoke her age at the wimbledon saying "sorry to you (serena).. i didnt want to take this (wimbledon shield) from you, but i had to win today.. i myself didnt know"
I am sure if I stood near her, she would be atleast 1 feet above my head or so. A tall beautiful russian(actually siberian). And one sports magazine ad i saw today had her picture besides which was written.. "For those who thought siberia is cold..." ;-)
It was a display of sheer hardwork and focus on the goal(rather than the result) that this sportswoman showed at the wimbledon. Her walk to the podium to recieve the wimbledon shield was full of jumping, laughter, flying kisses and expressions. It sure showed how she tasted victory at that time.
Its wonderful that this woman showed up at the wimbledon beyond her own expectations. I dedicate this blog entry (well...thats something that i can do :o) to her. Thanks for inspiring me by your achievement.
