The zing thing.. Gold spot

goldSpot_portugal_internetCafe.jpg

Some interesting people run down a nostalgic trip down memory lane(links below).. with how in the 90's, young minds were attracted to this drink brand 'Gold Spot'

...I too remembered days collecting the crowns of these bottled drinks for gifts, collecting big-fun bubble gum stickers for cricketer photographs, and also of close to 1500 maggi two-minute noodle covers for gifts. These days, what do kids do.. Harry potter, harry potter, all the time, and the gadgets that come in it.. like nimpus 2000 broomstick, or the abraca-dabra with a magic wand. Poor fellas, today's kids.

Nostalgic trip links:
@ Venkat's : Venkat is now CEO of a medium-sized software company.
@ Financial Express: wondering what financial express is doing with nostalgic trips on that brand?.. the author is Rahul Jauhari, executive creative director of a very big AD agency.

The original goldSpot logo, as it was in india in the 1990's:

Now, seems like 'Gold Spot' is not used anywhere.. at least not on drinks.

The above photo shows a netcafe in portugal which calls itself 'Gold Spot internet cafe'.. and if you think that is brand-hijack, notice the color changes they have made to the logo of Gold Spot.

Can't believe Einstein said this.

"Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal"

I was taken aback when I read this somewhere and marked as an Einstein quote.. verifying, looks like he said it. Just couldn't believe he had this opinion on technological progress... probably was a guy who hated inventions, and only liked theories.

Petchi T: An inspiring real story

Have you seen the movie 'The Pursuit of Happiness'... and did you have goose pimples watching its climax.. .My newspaper today had an actually much more inspiring story.. narrates briefly a real story of Petchi.T. Read at the below link.. take your time to feel every word of it... as if happening in front of you.. you will feel it.

She chartered her own course - The Hindu, metro Plus, pg 1

A dream: How would it be, if all poor had this courage and perseverance towards education.. ..actually some of us too have to learn something about perseverance from such people, we take it for granted that we are hard working and using our time the best. Keep dreaming. I will, for me thats the first step towards acheiving.

The UttarPradesh section of the Indian Road Loot starts

The government of UttarPradesh has floated tenders for international competitive bidding... for building an 8-lane road connecting the East-West of the state. The projects worth as per the tender is a whopping 25,000 and odd crores of Indian rupees.. or 6.7bn US$.

No, No, this is not for all road projects in the entire country.. but just approximately 950 kilometer stretch of road with 8-lanes. If you calculate 950x8 and put that in the denominator of 25000 crores...you get a budget of 328 crore rupees per km of one lane road.. i.e., 8.4 million US$ per km of 1-lane road...probably the costliest road project in the whole world.. I believe the road is going to be on the ground. Anyways, so, this is indeed a big BIG loot.

And even after all that money, all Indians know how much of all these government projects get completed.. and how well.. or actually whether they will really have 8-lanes when completed after 10-15 years. How can some 25,000 crore of money go un-laundered .. that too given that it is in India.. that too uttar pradesh.. and finally with Ms.Mayawati, the current uttar pradesh chief minister being the beneficiary. She must really have big plans.

News link: Contract for Indian highway goes to bid

The news is on the radar of almost all foreign business news websites.. everybody is into India to loot your money, and to take it back with them out of India itself, god save all our money :o).

Long live karan thapar and cyrus broacha

I should say.. karan thapar and cyrus broacha are doing a big favour to Indians. For, they make fun of, pull down the respect of, bring to open shame, criticize with the harshest but still diplomatic words.. India's stupid politicians, in front of the people on TV.

Karan wins the vote here, in comparison to cyrus, because karan does it right in front of the politicians he is questioning, in his interview 'Devil's Advocate' on CNN IBN.

Recently, Karan thapar pulled this murderer Narendra Modi, *still* the Gujarat chief minister, asking him again and again to answer the question on whether he wanted to at least accept that there were problems with his government's attitude towards the Godhra riots, and much more should have been done on it..
and this fellow didn't have anything to answer, had no face to even continue sitting in the interview, just got up and left the interview half-way.

I always wonder, how different is India from pakistan which is now with a state of emergency, because whatever is happening in India today, be it the politics in Karnataka over power, be it the politics on the Nuke deal, be it the strange feeling that Narendra modi might indeed come back to power in Gujarat in this elections also.. nothing of all this is democratic or progressive, and is total nonsense to people of the country who don't understand why culprits always win elections.
No wonder, the people in the stock market have started ignoring politicians these days, and the economy is booming no matter what these idiots have got to do with their stupid politics.

Today, just few minutes back, I had a hearty-hearty-laugh, at the stupid faces of Mr.Yashwanth sinha, and the tight corners Karan thapar was putting him into, on each question in the intereview on Devil's advocate.

One of the questions karan asked was like this..

> 3 weeks back Mr.Sinha says that JD(s) has betrayed the BJP and that the moral of the story is everybody has to be careful with this party JD(s) in future. Now, BJP is happy to tie up with JD(s) again to exercise power.
Doesn't BJP have any shame or pride? ....You said you should be careful with this party, now actually aren't you being FoolHardy? ... You said some moral of the story there.. what is BJP's morale looking like with tying up again with a partner like JD(s)?

You should have seen that sinha's face.. he stupidly tried to mis-answer the question by stating something about DMK's betrayal to BJP long back.. and that and this.. and finally said.. "in the art of politics, when power comes knocking on the door, you accept it." .. I liked the part where this guy said "art of politics".. they still don't realize.. it is actually "mess of politics" :o)

To Yashwant sinha's comparisons of BJP's foolhardiness with other Indian party's foolhardiness, karan asked.. "you keep saying DMK also did something like this, Congress also did something there, and all that.. but on the outskirts you campaign that BJP is a party with a difference, so why are you also doing the same stupid things other parties are doing.. and if so, why do you still say.. BJP is a party with a difference.. where and what is the difference".

and so..

So the world's largest democracy lives happily ever after.. even if need be that all people don't have time to protest or question but tolerate all nonsense with politics and everything internally, and live aside with a happy face.

Thanks to the media.. at least... it is doing its best in tearing up politicians all sides .. though unfortunately the indian population has not even grown up to not vote for these politicians further...let alone people growing up to questioning the politicians for their doings.
